Beignet Dreams Pin

This summer, I had the delightful experience of tasting my first Disney Beignet. Put me down as one of the ones dreaming about Beignets everyday forever now. They are such a delicious treat that I couldn’t help but make a crochet pin to wear while they are endlessly floating through my mind. Beignets buried in powdered sugar and dipped in berry sauce and chocolate, these are exquisite! No wonder you pronounce them “Bayn-YAYS!” I made mine with yarn embroidered “powdered sugar” and a Strawberry pin. Strawberry pattern here.

I hope you’ll have fun making your pin and wearing it for your Disney inspired fashion. The best part about this pin is that if real powdered sugar spills on the pin while eating real beignets at the Disney parks, no one will ever know.

Special Stitches:

12 SC Magic Loop: Similar to a regular 6 SC Magic loop but with 12 stitches instead of 6. If you need a tutorial or a quick review of how to do this stitch. Click here.

French Knot Embroidery: Follow the tutorial below if you’re new to this fun embroidery stitch.

Pattern Instructions:

Part 1: Beignet Panel (make 2):

Rnd 1: CH 9, turn.

Rnd 2:SC in second chain from the hook and in each remaining ST across. (8)

Rnd 3-9: SC in each ST across. Ch 1, turn. (8)

Color change to Red Heart Super Saver in Buff yarn.

Rnd 10: SC around edges of the Square. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for stitching.

Repeat Rnds 1-10 for the back panel.

After completing the second panel align one panel on top of the other and using the long tail, stitch around 3 edges of the panel. Stuff lightly with fiberfill. Leave the last edge open to complete embroidery stitching for the powdered sugar topping.

Powdered Sugar Magic Loop topping: Make 5 Magic loops:

Follow the 12 ST Magic Loop tutorial above to make 5 Magic loops with long tails for stitching in place.

Add the Magic loops by stitching them into place on the top of the beignet.

Fill in powdered sugar topping look by making French knots in the top of the beignet with white yarn.

French Knots Tutorial:

Step 1: Begin by securing the embroidery yarn in the work. Now yarn over the back of the needle 4 times.

Step 2: With the four loops on the needle, insert the tip of the needle in the work close to the beginning point but not in the same stitch.

Step 3: Gently work the needle through, making sure not to lose any of the loops as you pull the needle through the work.

Step 4: Carefully pull the knot securely.

Step 5: Ensure the stitch is secure.

Step 6: Continue adding french knots to give the Beignet a powdered sugar appearance on top.

After completing the desired amount of Powdered sugar embroidery, continue stitching around the open edge of the beignet to stitch the last side closed.

Now stitch a bar pin to the back of the beignet and it’s ready to wear. The best part about this pin is that if you get real powdered sugar on the beignet pin while eating real beignets at the Disney Parks, no one will notice:)
