February Cookie of the Month: Berries and Cream Sugar Cookies

Cookies might be one of the best treats to make and share to send an unmistakable message of love. It’s definitely no secret that I love Berries and so this month, as we celebrate all things LOVE, I decided to add berries to the frosting for these delicious sugar cookies. I made them as a gift for my Valentines and took them around to share just like in the “good ol days,” when we left surprises at our loved ones doors, knocked and ran away to hide. It’s one of my favorite Valentines traditions, making a homemade treat to share with the ones that make our lives so great. So…

    White Chocolate drizzled Gingersnaps

This year, I thought it might be fun to share a favorite cookie recipe each month. This will be mostly for selfish reasons, meaning I’ll get to make and EAT a batch of cookies every month for the sake of sharing the recipe. I have a cute, kind of old fashioned son who, if you ask him what kind of cookies he’d like you to make, he’ll almost always say, “How about Gingersnaps?” He started loving them as a chubby baby and the romance has continued. I love the way these Gingersnap cookies scent the whole house with warm smells of cinnamon, Mollasses, melted butter, Ginger, and Clove. A few…

Cancer Doesn’t Get to Take Everything

Like all of you, I hate cancer. The past two weeks our family has been mourning and saying farewell to a beloved family member, my Father-in-Law, Kurt. He was one of the very best ones. Someone who knew how to love people the moment he met them, as he did with me. He knew how to serve people and gave every part of himself to the people and causes in his world that needed him. We love him and will forever feel that it was too soon to have to say goodbye. He fought bone cancer as long as he could before it took him. These weeks of sadness and…

    Burnt Custard Pear Pie

As a child growing up, I have such golden memories of Thanksgiving and the beautiful dinner, always far too much, even for our giant extended families to eat. I loved walking in from the crisp outside air to smell the mixture of all the warm, traditional smells of Thanksgiving coming from the kitchen. Then seeing the bustle of activity as my Aunts and Uncles, Parents, and Grandparents rushed to make the final touches on the special dish they prepared, each one made with extra care to share with loved ones on this day. Beautiful place settings, the tinkling of glass and silverware, and the fun of looking around the room…

    A Zombie Potato Charcuterie Board

A wise person once said, “Charcuterie Boards are basically adult lunchables.” I have loved browsing ideas for charcuterie boards all over the internet and seeing some of these fun ideas show up at get togethers and events. I love the creativity and uniqueness that you can add to each board, making each addition coordinated to the theme of the board, or sometimes something totally different can be added to create just the right touch. For October, I have been brainstorming a charcuterie board with Macabre details and Zombie flair. Have a look and give these a try. They are just as delicious as they are spooky and they will be…

    Spiced Apple Cider Donuts

I have been known to be easily coerced into making all sorts of questionable decisions when the result will end in donuts. This time of year, I think one of the best trick or treats might be donuts on a string. There might have been a time when I would have shied away from looking silly while trying to wolf down one of the magical donuts dangling from a string, but on Halloween, it’s right up my alley. You might be someone who is skeptical about the amazing deliciousness of a donut on a string, and if you are, I would like you to give these donuts a try and…

    Swiftie Bracelets

Let’s face it. You’re going to the movie. You either weren’t able (like me) to spring for the tickets to the tour and so you missed it live, or you DID see it and you can’t wait to relive the fun. Either way, you’re probably going to need a few friendship bracelets. I took my daughters to the Eras Tour movie for our Witches Night Out and we had such a blast and made some fun memories. We loved the positive energy of the other (mostly tweens and teens) people in the crowd, the way everyone danced from their seats with a few very excited fans rushing to the front…

    Mad for Plaid

Comfy and soft with stripes and checks nodding to colors found in nature. In a search for how to add a cozy element to my home this fall, plaid prints, with their calming colors and understated beauty, have held my attention. Maybe it’s the way that a light flannel layer is just right to warm up when evenings and mornings are starting to give hints about cooler temperatures ahead, or maybe it’s the variation of color palettes that complement autumn so well. It is timeless and seasonably versatile, but this Autumn, I am Mad for Plaid. Try it with colors of your choice. Plaid in pallettes that coordinate with your…
