Cookie of the Month for July: Retro Peanut Blossoms

Let’s keep it Classic this month by sticking to the basics. Nothing fancy, just a crumbly, chewy peanut butter cookie topped with chocolate. You might recognize these from your childhood. They’re an old recipe I grew up with and the pairing of chocolate and peanut butter is a match made in Heaven. These delicious treats will be a recipe you pull out of your recipe box again and again for their simple, pantry staple ingredients, quick baking with no chill time and crowd pleasing flair. They’re a little bit perfect, just like all retro throw backs. Don’t you think? Give them a try:)

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups All purpose Flour

1/2 cup Sugar

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1 tsp Baking Soda

1/2 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Shortening

1/2 cup Peanut Butter

1 Egg

2 TBSP Milk

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

30 Chocolate Kisses

Preheat Oven to 375 degrees. While it’s heating, combine all ingredients except the chocolate kisses in a mixing bowl. Blend well at low speed until the dough pulls away from the sides.
Using a cookie scoop, form the dough into balls and roll each ball in additional sugar. Place the dough balls on a non greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.
Remove the cookies from the oven and top each cookie immediately with a chocolate kiss, pressing down so the cookie cracks around the edges.
Serve and enjoy!
