Waffles, Berries, and Cream, Oh My!

Let’s have some more fun with Strawberries! If you’ve enjoyed making the Strawberries from the Strawberries on the the Vine Bookmark, here is another idea for a fun project. If you prefer a printable pattern, click the download button.

Berry Belgian Waffle:

For this pattern, we can learn and practice the Waffle stitch. You’ll see that it’s actually an easy stitch to learn and fun to use in all sorts of projects.

Supplies:

Strawberries Here’s the pattern for the Strawberries.

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Buff, or your yarn of choice

Size H8 hook

White Baby Sport Yarn

Size E4 hook

Special Stitches: Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) If this is a new stitch for you or you’d like a quick refresher, here is a tutorial.

Waffle Instructions:

With Buff colored yarn and size H8 hook.

Rnd 1: Ch 21, turn.

Rnd 2: DC in third Ch from hook and in each Ch across. (20) Turn

Rnd 3: Ch2 (counts as the first DC) Skip the first DC. DC in next ST. *Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 ST, DC in the next 2 ST.** Repeat from * to ** 3 more times. FPDC in next ST, DC in the top of the last ST. Turn. (20)

Rnds 4-13: repeat round 3 until Waffle is a square.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Whipped Cream Instructions:

With White baby sport yarn and size E4 hook

First layer:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a Magic Loop. Pull snugly to close the loop. (6)

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each St around. (12)

Rnd 3: 2 SC in each St around. (24)

Rnd 4: 3 DC in each ST around. (72)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Second layer:

Rnd 1: 12 SC in a Magic Loop. (Pull snugly to close.)(12)

Rnd 2: 3 DC in each ST around. (36)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for stitching.

Assembly:

Place the layers with the smaller layer on top of the larger layer and using a yarn needle and the long tail from the second layer, stitch the two layers together.
