Pudgy Candy Corns

A Beginner Friendly Crochet Pattern

Representing the warm colors of Autumn with their sugary sweet taste, candy corns are everywhere you look at this delightfully fun time of year. I love the old fashioned, nostalgic flair that these Pudgy crochet Candy corns bring when I set them around the house. From decorating a bed, to the fireplace mantle, hiding them in the throw pillows on the couch or set up on the dining room sideboard, these candy corn are making me smile just like the sweet treats they are reminiscent of.

Materials:

  • Bernat Baby yarn in Ecru
  • Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Carrot
  • Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Gold
  • US size E4 (3.5mm) Crochet Hook
  • Fiberfill
  • Yarn Needle

Gauge:

8 Stitches X 10 Rows = 2″X 2″ Square

Pattern used for gauge: Single Crochet

Sizes:

Finished Candy Corn measures 5 inches tall by 4.75 inches wide.

Abbreviations:

CH – Chain

HDC – Half-double Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SC: Single Crochet

SLST – Slip Stitch

ST(S) – Stitch(es)

SK – Skip

Notes:

This fun to crochet candy corn decoration is crocheted in two pieces, the top piece and the bottom piece. The pieces are crocheted separately, stuffed and then stitched together at the bottom. It’s a beginner friendly pattern, using magic loop, single crochet and slip stitch.

Pattern Instructions

Candy Corn Body:

Rnd 1: With Ecru yarn and size E4 hook, 6 SC in a magic loop. Pull Snugly to close the loop. (6)

Use a stitch marker to mark the first ST of each round.

Rnd 2: 2 SC in each ST around. (12)

Rnd 3: *SC in the next 2 ST, 2 SC in each of the next 4 ST, ** Repeat from * to ** once more. (20)

Rnd 4: SC in each ST around. (20)

Rnd 5: * SC in the next 3 ST, 2 SC in the next St. ** Repeat from * to ** around. (25)

Rnd 6: *SC in the next 4 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.** Repeat from * to ** around. (30)

Rnd 7: SC in each ST around. (30) Color change to Carrot colored yarn at the last pull through of the last ST of the round. Fasten off Ecru.

Rnd 8: With Carrot yarn, loosely Slip Stitch (SLST) in the back loops only (BLO) of each ST around. This creates a clear color change line.

Rnd 9: *SC in the next 5 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.** Repeat from * to ** around. (35)

Rnd 10: SC in each ST around. (35)

Rnd 11: * SC in the next 6 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.** Repeat from 8 to ** around. (40)

Rnd 12: SC in each ST around. (40)

Rnd 13: *SC in the next 7 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.** Repeat around. (45) Color change to Gold at the last pull through of the last ST of the round. Fasten off carrot yarn.

Rnd 14: With Gold yarn, loosely SLST in BLO of each ST around. (45)

Rnd 15: SC in each ST around. (45)

Rnd 16: * SC in the next 14 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.**Repeat from * to ** once more. (48)

Rnd 17: *SC in the next 15 ST, 2 SC in the next ST.** Repeat from * to ** once more. (51)

Rnd 18-21: SC in each ST around. (51)

After you have completed rnd 21, fasten off. and weave in end.

Bottom Piece:

Rnd 1: With Gold yarn and size E4 (3.5 mm) hook, Ch 21,

Turn.

Rnd 2: SC in the second CH from the hook and in each remaining ST across. (20) CH 1, turn.

Rnd 3- 11: SC in each ST across. (20) CH 1, turn.

After completing Rnd 11, fasten off, leaving a long tail for Stitching the bottom piece to the top piece.

Assembly:

Begin stitching bottom piece to the base of the Candy Corn piece using a yarn needle and whipstitch. Leave a 2 inch opening to stuff candy corn with fiberfill.

Stuff candy corn firmly with fiberfill and then finish stitching the 2 inch opening closed. Fasten off and weave in end.
