Delight of the Month: May Flowers

May is the month when my flower gardens start to come alive! After the early spring months show their bipolar side by being warm and inviting, to the sudden outburst of winter storms. Then beautiful May arrives and seems to make up its mind to be grounded in beauty and sunshine. It might be the prettiest month of the year in my southern Utah area. The Briarberry Delight of the Month Flowers for May include some of the flowers on display in my flower gardens. A fluffy pink Peony, a sophisticated, laced Iris, and a bunch of pastel Mums.

Peonies are my favorite flowers and these are giant this year. When I planted the bulb that these flowers came from, it felt a bit like a long term discovery. It took 3 years for the bush to grow blooms and I was so delighted to see the pink flowers that I had waited so long for. Definitely worth the wait.

These Iris are so graceful and they share their beautiful fragrant perfume with the entire neighborhood. I have loved the journey of growing Iris because they are so reliable and quick to build a patch of these beautiful and lovely smelling flowers. I’ve become a collector of Iris starts when I see different types that are new to me but this variety is my favorite.

And of course, some Mums to usher in Summer from a lovely Spring.
What are your favorite flowers to celebrate the end of spring and the beginning of summer?
