Crochet Toy Food Feeding Bottle and Haybale

Are you crocheting along making accessories for Hyacinth the baby Highland Cow? Grab your yarn and hooks and join along! If there’s one thing you should know about Hyacinth, it’s that she is always hungry and hoping for a snack during playtime. I’m making Hyacinth a feeding bottle and some Haybales today. These are both quick crochet toy food projects that will add to the playtime fun for little ones playing with Hyacinth or other farm animals. Let’s get started.

Hyacinth’s Feeding Bottle:

Materials:

• Yarn in colors of choice. I used Red Heart Yarn in Aran, Big Twist yarn in Camel, and Pound of Love yarn in Light Pink and Light Blue
• Size E4 Crochet hook
• Fiberfill or your stuffing of choice

Gauge:

8 rows X 9 Stitches = 2″ X 2″ Square. Pattern used to measure gauge: Single Crochet.

Completed Size:

Finished Bottle measures 3.5 inches tall X 2.5 inches wide.

Abbreviations:

SC – Single Crochet

CH – Chain

FSC – Foundation Single Crochet

HDC – Half-double Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SLST – Slip Stitch

ST(S) – Stitch(es)

SK – Skip

Instructions:

Rnd 1: With Camel yarn, make 4 SC in a Magic Loop. Pull the free end snugly to close the loop. If you’re new to Magic Loop or if you’d like a quick refresher, visit my Helpful Tutorials Page Here. (4)

Rnd 2: SC in each ST around. (4)

Rnd 3: 2 SC in each ST around. (8)

Rnd 4: 2 SC in each ST around. (16)

Rnd 5: 2 SC in each ST around. (32) Color change to Light Pink yarn at the last pull through of the last ST of the Rnd.

Rnd 6: SLST in BLO of each ST around. (32)

Rnd 7: SC in BLO of each ST around. (32)

Rnd 8: SC in each ST around. (32) Color change to Aran yarn at the last pull through of the last ST of the Rnd.
Rnd 9: SLST in BLO of each ST around. (32)

Rnd 10-16: SC in each ST around. (32)

Rnd 17: * Decrease in each ST around.** Repeat from * to ** around. (16)

Rnd 18: *Decrease in each ST around.** Repeat from * to ** around. (8)

Stuff bottle firmly with fiberfill.
Rnd 19: *Decrease in each ST around.** Repeat from * to ** around. (4)

Fasten off, leaving a tail for weaving. Using the tail for weaving and a yarn needle, weave the yarn through the BLO of each remaining stitch of the round and pull snugly to close the loop. Secure in place with a knot and weave in the end.

Haybale

Materials:

• Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cornmeal
• Size E4 Crochet Hook
• Fiberfill or stuffing of your choice
• Yarn Needle for stitching

Gauge:

9 Stitches X 3 Rows = 2″ X 2″ square. Pattern used for Gauge: Double Crochet.

Size:

Finished Size is 5 inches long X 2 inches tall

Abbreviations:

C – Single Crochet

CH – Chain

FSC – Foundation Single Crochet

HDC – Half-double Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

SLST – Slip Stitch

ST(S) – Stitch(es)

SK – Skip

Instructions:

Panel:

CH 20, turn.

Row 1: SC in the second CH from the hook and in each remaining ST across. CH 2, turn. (19)

Row 2: DC in BLO of second ST of the row and in each remaining ST across. CH 1, turn. (19)

Row 3: SC in each ST across. CH 2, turn. (19)

Row 4: Repeat Row 2. (19)

Row 5: Repeat Row 3. (19)

Rows 6-20: Continue alternating Rows 2 and 3 until you have 24 Rows.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for stitching. Fold the panel in half, matching the short edges together. Using a yarn needle and the long tail for stitching, stitch the short edges together, making a cylinder.

End Pieces: (Make 2)

Row 1: CH 7, turn.
Row 2: SC in second ST from the hook and in each remaining ST across. CH 2, turn. (6)

Row 3: DC in BLO of each ST across. CH 1, turn. (6)

Row 4: SC in each ST across. CH 2, turn. (6)

Row 5: DC in BLO of each ST across. CH 1, turn. (6)

Row 6: SC in each ST across. Ch2, turn. (6)

Row 7: DC in each ST across. Fasten off, leaving a tail for stitching. (6)

Using a yarn needle and the long tail for Stitching, stitch the end piece to the end of the Haybale. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Stuff the haybale with fiberfill.
Stitch the second end piece to the other end of the haybale. Try to align the edges so that the corners match for both end pieces, to create a haybale shape. Fasten off and weave in ends.
