Fishing for Rainbow Trout

A beginner friendly crochet pattern

I have a love of Toy making. As a mom, when birthdays and Christmas time were on their way, I would spend hours thinking of something unique and special that I could make for each of my three little ones. As they grew, I began to teach them to crochet too and found that they loved to learn and work on projects too. I have loved these moments so much with each of my kids that it’s a dream of mine to create a series of patterns appropriate for little hands and fingers with beginner stitches and (hopefully) easy to follow design patterns. This crochet pattern series has a focus on the Great Outdoors and I’m naming the series Summer Camp because I hope it will be a way for our young crochet friends, the KIDS, to learn and enjoy the art of crochet. This beginner crochet pattern for a Rainbow Trout is one of the more challenging patterns in the series so stay tuned, others will be added to the site soon.

Some fun Facts about Rainbow Trout:

  1. They will always return to the area where they were born when it comes time to spawn their eggs.
  2. Rainbow Trout are Predators and they love to eat all sorts of land and water insects, and will even eat fish, shrimp, and eggs that are smaller than them.
  3. Rainbow trout are unable to live in polluted water. They are actually used in water purification facilities to test pollution levels in the water.
  4. The largest recorded Rainbow Trout weighed over 48 pounds! It was caught in Saskatchewan.
  5. There are 15 known subspecies of Rainbow Trout.

I hope you’ll crochet a whole lake full of these Rainbows and I’m excited to see the ways you make them unique.
